MANILA – A priest based in Pangasinan said on Thursday that the Catholic Church supports the tandem of Vice President Leni Robredo and Senator Kiko Pangilinan as it is part of its moral obligation to guide the people in choosing their leaders.

Several Catholic priests and nuns went door to door on Wednesday in Lingayen to accompany Aika Robredo who campaigned for her mother.

“Kailangan naming lumabas, kailangan naming tumayo para sa kanila. Bakit? Hindi dahil in your bagkus your term appointed in Diyos (We have to come out, we have to defend them. Why? It’s not for the person (referring to Robredo), it’s more our mandate from God),” the father said. Jake Rubillos said in a statement.

He said the position of the Catholic Church is not for Robredo, but for truth and good governance, especially for the poor.

Previously, some 1,400 Catholic bishops, priests and deacons, belonging to the “Clergy for Moral Choice” group, endorsed the Leni-Kiko tandem at a parish church in Tondo.

About 200 clergy, religious and consecrated people in the Archdiocese of Cebu also expressed their support for the pair during a visit from Robredo’s daughter, Tricia, on Thursday. (NAP)
