Food stalls are set up for a Three Kings festival organized by the communities of the Neocatechumenal Path in the Plaza de España in Hagåtña on Sunday January 2, 2021.

“We’ve been doing this for years and we’ve grown from a small group to what it is today, and it’s all God’s work,” said Lina Atalig, Senior Event Coordinator of the Three. Kings in church. “The purpose of this is to bring the family together and bring the message of the three kings which is to be obedient to the light, to follow the light (of God), and to change our ways.”

The event allowed members to dress up as three kings while others attended as they arrived at the church. They also asked members of their group, especially children, to write letters filled with wishes to the three sitting kings to give to Jesus.

Festival

After the church celebration it continues to the Three Kings Festival where they have stands dedicated to each of the kings, food, games and prizes.

Senior festival coordinator Laura Taispic said the Three Kings used to travel to both Guam Memorial Hospital and Guam Regional Medical City to visit sick children. However, due to the current restriction, they were unable to do so.

Atalig believes that, especially during this period, the message of the Three Kings celebration has become particularly significant in restoring the faith.

“It’s so necessary. How many of us are still afraid to go out? But we don’t control, God is, ”Atalig said. “It’s really a gift, to have COVID because it shows us where our faith is, it really helped me have faith in God.”
