PARISH priests from the Catholic Diocese of Gizo met last month in Gizo to prepare for the Universal Synod of the Church to be held in Rome next year.

Media officer for the Catholic Diocese of Gizo, Rellysdom Malakana, said the meeting was launched after the Holy Father urged the Church to prepare for the Universal Synod of the Church during the recent Episcopal Conference. for Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands.

Mr. Malakana said that as part of this preparation, the parish priests made presentations on the reports from their respective parishes and analyzed the work of the church in the Diocese of Gizo by listening to each parish report.

“They also have presentations, discussions and decision-making,” Malakana said.

A total of 12 parish priests from eight parishes in the Catholic Diocese of Gizo attended the meeting which was held in Bethania, Gizo on March 4.and 2022.

The theme of the meeting was “Communion, Participation, Mission”.

Mr. Malakana said the theme is now embraced by the diocese to enlighten the people of God through his words in prayer and also to enable “everyone to follow the path to which God calls us – deeper communion, participation fuller and more open to the accomplishment of the mission in the world”.

The Catholic Diocese of Gizo covered the province of Choiseul, the Shortland Islands and Noro in the Western Province.

During the meeting, the priests also renewed their baptismal promises and renewed their vows.

Mr. Malakana said the meeting ended with a Chrism Mass (the blessing of holy anointing and consecrated oil) which was also attended by Gizo parishioners.
