Archbishop GÄ…decki, 71, was the Archbishop of PoznaÅ„ since 2002. He was elected president of the Polish Bishops ‘Conference in 2014 and for a second term in 2019. He is vice-president of the Council of European Bishops’ Conferences (CCEE).
The Diocese of Bielsko-Żywiec in southern Poland is in the ecclesiastical province of Krakow. The Vatican sanctions imposed last month on Retired Bishop Tadeusz Rakoczy, Bishop of Bielsko-Żywiec from 1992 to 2013.

The Vatican also imposed disciplinary measures on Cardinal Henryk Gulbinowicz, 97, in November 2020.
The clergyman, who served as Archbishop of WrocÅ‚aw in southwestern Poland from 1976 to 2004, was banned from attending celebrations or public meetings. He was also prohibited from using the bishop’s insignia.
He deceased 10 days after the announcement of the sanctions.
In 2019, the Polish Bishops’ Conference published a report which found that 382 clergy sexually assaulted a total of 624 victims between 1990 and 2018.
