The two Catholic priests, Rev. Fr. Udo Peter of St Patrick’s Catholic Church, Uromi and Rev. Fr. Philemon Oboh of St. Joseph Ugboha Retreat Center, who were abducted in Edo on Saturday evening, have been rescued.

The clerics were rescued in the early hours of Wednesday and brought to Edo State Government House, where they were received by Acting Governor Comrade Philip Shaibu.

According to the Acting Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Musa Ebomhiana, the rescue operation was carried out by a joint security force, noting that the Governor was happy to receive the rescued clerics.

He noted that no ransom was paid and said Shaibu praised the security guards for their quick response.

He said, “I can confirm that the clerics were released and brought to Government House where they were received by the Acting Governor who was delighted to see them.

“He congratulated the security officers on the rescue operation and urged them to continue their good work and rid the state of criminals,” he added.

The police had not yet reacted to the development of the situation at the time of filing this report.
